Flea market treasures

I recently went to a local flea market – you can read more about it in last blog post⇢ Flea market in Aarhus
When looking through the many stalls at the market I found a lot of things to buy but I just couldn’t think of a place to put them or storage them so I didn’t spend too much money and I only bought 4 items.

The first thing I came across was this small picture and I just had to buy it. I’m a massive fan of Bjørn Wiinblad who’s the artist behind this picture. Bjørn Wiinblad was a Danish painter, designer, and artist in ceramics, silver, bronze, textiles and graphics. I own a lot of Wiinblad things – coffee cups, ceramic jars, and paintings. All of my Wiinblad paintings are black with a gold frame and when I saw this beautiful and colourful painting I just had so own it!

The blue measuring cups are from Glud and Marstrand – The company produced a wide range of metal objects, including pans, utensils, petroleum lamps, cooking appliances, and stoves. Among the early products, the enamelled kitchenware with the GM brand is popular in the aftermath – especially the coffee pot Madam Blue. The blue items from Glud and Marstrand were all over the market but it was difficult to find items that were in good condition. When I came across these two measuring cups I had to buy them – I think they’re so cute and I can’t wait to use them.

The last thing I bought was this gold centerpiece – I’m not sure what to call it or what it’s suppose to be used for but I really like it! As seen in the photo I can use it for my jewelry but it could be used for so many other things… I’m considering putting it on a shelf in my hallway/entrence and have my keys in one tray, a lipgloss/lipstick in another and some money in the last tray.
I really like that this centerpeice looks old and vintage but I think I’ll replace the “leather” on the handle with some new – since more and more of it is falling apart everytime I touch it.

I think these items fit right in with the rest of my interiour and style, though I must say I had hoped to buy more at the flea market but I’m really pleased with the items I’ve bought. I’m always looking for new pieces to add to my home and I’m sure I’ll find more at the next market.

  1. Bjørn Wiinblad was a distant relative of mine! I never got a chance to meet him but his sent lots of his work to my sister and I when we were kids– I have so much of his art around my house, including the same print that you featured here. It’s part of a set, which I didn’t realize till a couple years ago when I took it out of the frame and found 3 more prints behind it!
You definitely found some cool things 😊

    1. I love everything baking-related so I had to have these measuring cups 🙂 Second-hand shopping so so much fun – glad you liked the post
